“I think I have made just one picture that I really like, and that is Winter Light…Everything is exactly as I wanted to have it, in every second of this picture.”
– Ingmar Bergman
Marta Lundberg, an atheist local school teacher sits and laments at the church pew because she is deeply in love with a pastor whose faith in God, himself and Marta is dwindling into an existential nothingness. At the point of her absolute utter despair she is confronted by Satan who takes on the appearance of the church organist. This is her Garden of Gethsemane.
Welcome to Life on Earth.

My son just marked this one down… we haven’t been able to see any movies in a while since our Woody Allen fest. Wild Strawberries and this one is on the list.
We just finished watching Sleeper as a family. My kids loved it because of the slapstick hunour. So many great one liners and that cloning scene or as Diane put it cronation is comedic genius. Also, I would recommend you and your son son watch Persona and Wild Strawberries to immerse yourselves into Bergman. Then perhaps Winter Light after. Oh by the way it doesn’t seem you are getting all my messages. I sent one about the new teaser trailer of Tarantino’s 9th film. I also sent another message in your blog about an album called Tarot Suite.
I have a question. Since you are a huge admirer of the Beatles, a friend of mine wanted me to ask you.. have you heard of a man called William Campbell?
I didn’t get that or I completely missed it. I will be looking for that trailer.
Thanks about the Bergman recommendation…. we will see at least one this coming week
Yes I know who Mr Campbell is…. he is supposedly Paul or Faul… Fake Paul… cause Paul died and the Beatles replaced him with William…. who happened to be a great bass player, singer and songwriter lol
She told me about it and I laughed it off, but she was convinced after watching some Chilean documentary on you tube that it was true. Is there any veracity to their claims?
It is very interesting. Some people think also that the Beatles dropped those hints on purpose to mess with people.
It is an interesting story
The fact you haven’t discredited their claims outright has me confused. This is the first time I had heard of this conspiracy. I thought they could easily prove through voice and facial recognition that pre 66’s Paul was the same as post 66’s Paul. What am I missing here?
Oh yes… just being sarcastic…its hard to convey that over comments at times… about how they happened to find a person that looked like Paul, played and sang like him.
Alot of people really believe he is fake. It is amazing how many people do. A disc jockey in Detroit started the rumor in 69.
No that is Paul James McCartney no doubt
My friend says that with recent forensic technology they have demonstrated through photograph comparisons that the nose, front teeth and the chin are not of the same person. Also she stated that there is strong death symbolism in various photos and on album covers that Paul is dead. One such symbol is Paul or William appearing shoeless (barefeet) on albums and other photos.
Yes also Paul is wearing a black carnation while the others are wearing red ones in Magical Mystery Tour….On the grave on Sgt Peppers album they are shaped as Paul’s bass. If you play….part of I’m So Tired backwards it says Paul is a dead man Miss Him Miss Him…or at least that is what some people think.
It would be interesting if they planted that stuff on purpose to mess with people.
Man, you definitely know your Beatles! Yes, I believe that it is more probable that they were simply messing with people and that’s that. But I agree, it’s all very interesting for me at least since I hadn’t known about this stuff before.
I’ve been reading about them since I was a youngster. Their story interests me just as much as their music. Probably the most interesting story in rock from where they came from.
I may do a post on this soon…
Yes, I hope you do it. That would be a great read.
Good night Bad. Thanks for the interesting info re the Beatles. Cheers.
Good night….thank you for giving me a blog idea!
