Good Enough – Molly Tuttle

I came across Molly Tuttle’s music recently and I’ve liked a lot of what I’ve heard. What impressed me straight off the bat was her exceptional guitar playing and the melodic appeal of her music. It came as no big surprise then to learn that this Californian lass grew up in a musical household. She began playing at age eight and made her onstage debut at age eleven, performing with her father Jack Tuttle, a veteran bluegrass instructor.

From the age of 13, she’s been making records, initially recording duets with her father, before becoming part of the family group and later the all-female bluegrass group The Goodbye Girls. Since 2017, she has released an EP and five solo records. Today’s featured song Good Enough comes from her debut EP, Rise, which was released after a crowdfunding campaign.

Molly really lets her fingers do the dancing on this one. She’s got real skill and feel and she makes the song the focus. Just so talented. It’s great to see her carrying on the American folk music tradition with her fantastic interpretation. There’s also a nice tranquil message in the lyrics about finding peace in what you have and learning how to “let some doors stay shut“. Oh yeh, she’s ‘Good Enough‘.

Since we’ve just set sail on the Molly Tuttle music voyage, I won’t overload this article with too much information. But fill your boots in the meantime with this short interview (and back story) with Molly on CBS Mornings. Suffice to say, I’ll be backtracking over the coming months to feature more of her music as we ease this music project into port for decommissioning.

[Verse 1]
Couldn’t sleep last night
Too many demons floating ’round my head
But with the morning light
Your warmth pushed away my dread

[Chorus]
There comes a time to say, “That’s good enough”
I’m finally learning how to let some doors stay shut
It gets so hard but I’m not giving up
Comes a time to say, “That’s good enough”

[Verse 2]
I’ve gotta let this go
This doubt inside me with every road I take
There’s things I’ll never know
But I’ll go my own way

[Chorus]

[Verse 3]
I’ll take this day by day
With a little laughter, a smile to get me through
Maybe I’m not okay
Not today, but I’m here with you
