Digger – Alejandro González Iñárritu (Friday’s Finest)
It’s difficult to know where to start when discussing the latest Tom Cruise movie, Digger, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu (Birdman, The Revenant). It’s so dense, absurdist and polemical that I’m not sure how to cover everything I want to…
Judy – Rupert Goold (Friday’s Finest)
When I do a Friday’s Finest movie segment, I put the name of the director alongside the title, but in the case of Judy (2019), Renée Zellweger certainly deserves her name shone in bright lights, because by golly does she…
When Your Mind’s Made Up – Glen Hansard
When I read the news two weeks ago that Irish singer-songwriter Glen Hansard had tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident, I was confounded and aggrieved. At just 56 years of age, he was still so young, and yet he…

Cafe Society (2016) – Woody Allen (Friday’s Finest)
I hadn’t had as much fun watching a movie for a good while as I did watching Cafe Society by Woody Allen yesterday. Someone once wrote that you either get Woody or you don’t, and judging by the sharply contrasting…

Land Ho! (2014) – Martha Stephens and Aaron Katz (Friday’s Finest)
You might have seen those “bucket list” movies where ageing stars team up to tick off lifelong dreams and get into a bit of mischief along the way. You know the type – pleasant, sentimental, and fairly predictable. Now we…
