Happy Christmas all! Here it has become a ‘festive tradition’ to present on Christmas Day Bing Crosby’s moving Christmas story called The Small One. I loved listening to this as a child around Christmas time. It was on the same LP (image above) as Oscar Wilde’s The Happy Prince which I posted about 4 years ago.
According to Wikipedia: The Small One is a Charles Tazewell story with musical accompaniment from Victor Young and his Orchestra. Charles Tazewell was a radio playwright and children’s book author, whose work has been adapted multiple times for film…..
I have a very small, but loyal readership here at Observation Blogger. To you kind folk who interact with me, some nearly daily, weekly or however frequently I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family’s a VERY Merry Christmas. Without your poignant reflections and interaction I would have left this caper a long time ago. So thank you and ‘Salud’ my dear friends.
Wonderful story Matt… I forgot about this…you are the one that I heard it from the first time I believe.
I didn’t actually listen to it again this year as I know it back to front. Images and sounds from it came intermittently to my mind which was nice. I’m glad you like it so Max.
I’m such a tradition guy…last night I realized I hadn’t seen one or two shows…I got them in.
‘A tradition guy’ – that sounded funny Max lol
I didn’t have the kids this XMAS so I did away with the usual Chrissy fanfare apart from reading your plenitude of articles haha
lol… my nephew and his family came over so we have kids in the house…it was a lot of fun.
That’s super Max you had the ‘littlies’ running about at Chrissie. What are your NY eve plans? I’m picking my kids up in a few hours and I’m quite excited lol Woohoo.
I’m happy for you about picking them up soon. Bailey will be home on Jan 9… No Jennifer and I will be at home on New Years Eve…watching the ball drop lol.
How does Bailey like Germany?
The ball drop? What’s that Max?
He does like Germany…what he likes best is the transit systems…he said he wished we had that but…we are too far apart here while Germany is much smaller.
Oh…Dick Clark started to have New Year celebrations televised a long time ago and the count down is a giant ball dropping in New York…they still do it. Here you go.
Ah I see. I’m glad Bailey likes it.
Thanks for the clarification on the ball drop and video.
If I don’t catch you again before the years out, all the best wishes to you and your family for 2024. Salud.
Same to you Matt!
Love this
Had you heard it before Tom?
Never. And I’m surprised. I love it. Bing Crosby was everywhere when I was a child.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard it and not shed a tear and found the hair on my arms stand up on end lol
I must admit apart from this LP I haven’t much of Bing since crooner music isn’t my scene, but of course I can’t help but admire him.
That is just cool. Reminds me of long long ago.
