Cuplé
The cuplé is a Spanish musical style, light and popular, which could sometimes be risqué and spicy by the standards of the time. I featured Nathy Peluso’s version yesterday of The Violetera (The Woman who sells Violets) which is quintessential Cuplé music and a homage to Sara Montiel and the film of the same name (see above).
Cortisol
This is related to last week’s pituitary gland post.
Cortisol is a steroid hormone. It is located in the adrenal glands which lie above the kidneys. It is released in response to stress and low blood glucose and released with a circadian cycle which regulates the sleep – wake cycle every 24 hours.
The Teacher’s Slogan
Jordan Peterson said in the video below:
‘You need to learn to think! Thinking makes you active in the world. It makes you win the battles you undertake and those could be battles for good things. If you can think, and speak, and write you are absolutely deadly. Nothing can get in your way. It’s the most powerful weapon you can provide someone with’
Very interesting video Matt about critical thinking, powerfully put across. And oh, I know all about the kidneys, the hormone cortisol etc and its relationship to ‘stress’. Just take my word for it!!! x
Someone had written to me about Cortisol and the Pituitary Gland, and to be honest I had never thought much about it until then.
I left a 50 dollar on the bench today which a young guy asked me about. ‘Is this yours’? So I recovered it feeling very stupid. I still don’t know how I did that.
At least that young guy was honest! We all get forgetful Matt, it’s a part of life!!
Hi Sharon, thanks for reminding me of that, because I thought I was going bonkers. Haha
People are really good like that generally like the young man at the bank. For example, there have been times when I have accidently overpaid people and they have been more than forthcoming to make me aware of it and return the overpaid sum.
Hope all is well with you in Latin America!
Things have been better Sharon. But everyone is doing there thing and bringing home the bacon as they say. Likewise I hope you are well.
Matt, things can only get better! I’ve waved my magic wand!!! Wishing you a fabulous weekend, S
We had a fabulous weekend with the kids sports and making new acquaintances. It’s neat when one feels a little more part of the social and community fabric after the prolonged Pandemic period. The weather’s been fantastic as well despite it being a wet season. Might be down to the El Niño effect which I think I raised with you before.
I also hope that you had a marvellous weekend.
Spectacular the Violets poem by Theodora, no?
Hi Matt, yes, I loved Theodora Goss’ poem. Her poetry is so unusual! Let’s hope she writes another one soon. I had a nice weekend, thank you. Catch you again soon.
Hi Sharon, I’m thrilled you loved it like me. I agree her style is so unusual. It’s bare bones…. as if you are seeing right inside the person writing.
That’s right Matt, her poetry is quite intimate in a way! Never heard of her before you mentioned her. Nice one!!
Thanks for that Sharon. That’s so kind of you. I think we have Theodora to thank. Haha.

Got it Matt! Thanks. A spectacular poem!!! I feel all the better for having read it and her other work!!
Hi Sharon. It’s always a pleasure to read her poems. Have a wonderful night!
