I have such conflicted emotions about this. On the one hand, the fact the studio and the film’s director, along with a legion of engineers and crew, could conceive of, design, and build such a ramp high on a promontory in Norway is nothing short of astonishing. Then there’s Tom Cruise himself (who appears to be ageless), who has the courage to even attempt such difficult stunts! On the other hand, it’s also mind-boggling what lengths all concerned will go to, not to mention the enormous cost expended, to film what will end up being a one or two-minute long scene.
Yes, he’s kind of like the last big action hero, but he’s also a fantastic dramatic actor such as what we saw in Jerry Maguire and Rain Man. You can’t help but admire this guy even despite his questionable faith and personal beliefs.

I couldn’t have written a better prelude to this video if I tried. Thanks so much for your illuminating reflections on the video.
You’re welcome!
